Tom Dutcher

MHS Class of 1960

For decades, Tom Dutcher showed a true commitment to see that the Montrose community thrived.  Tom worked very hard on the furtherance of air transportation for Montrose.  He served as chairman of the Montrose Airport Authority board for 16 of the 18 years he was on the board.  He was instrumental in the expansion of the Montrose airport with the construction of a new terminal and a 10,000-foot runway.  The airport expansion created new opportunities for economic growth in the Montrose area and southwestern Colorado.  Tom also worked to establish and maintain a four-year college (Western Colorado College) in Montrose in the 1970’s.  The College provided degrees to a significant number of local students. However, the existence of the College was not sustainable due to a public vote to not support the expenses of a local college.  Tom also held executive positions on the Montrose Chamber of Commerce and was involved with area youth programs and sports.  He used his leadership talents to assist in the economic growth of the Montrose community and to make the community a better place to live.
